Sitting here inside of the now freshly opened Tatte Bakery and Cafe, I get to write to you all about why I "went for it," and decided to open a second studio here in the South End of Boston. As most of you may already know from posts I make public, I am a jeweler and metalsmith that puts a strong focus on porcelain jewelry settings and other natural stones I have been loving. What has never been too easy for you to see is my home life, and with it, the thrown pottery and slip cast work I create for my husband and I to use at home...
I'm writing from the beautiful jewelry studio of my friend Emily Shaffer here in Maine. I first met Emily when we were both doing ArtRider shows in the greater New York City area. We probably met at Lyndhurst, if not Rhinebeck, NY? Her work is so architectural and elegant with a modern, clean vibe that it's hard not to want to touch her pieces and try them on and keep them forever. The nice thing is she works with a lot of Argentium Silver, which is a nice material that is nickel free and has a higher content of sterling silver.
Getting back to Boston was great because I just wanted some of that peaceful quietness to get some work done at the studio. Organizing a space for better work function can be pretty effective, so I figured it was time to mount-up the shelves and stop dawdling on the last bit of polishing-up the studio was in need...
